You know what they say, you never get a second chance to make a first impression.
Legendary Saskatchewan Roughrider running back George Reed often told the story of the first time he drove to Regina, driving right past the Queen City, thinking it was too small. Fast-forward to 2021, and recently retired running back Jamal Morrow told the SportsCage what he knew about the province before his arrival.
“I look it up on a map. I'm like, okay Regina (ruh-jean-ah). I remember I was going to the airport and the lady says, ‘Oh, no, you mean Regina.’ I then knew what the city was called, and I said to myself, okay, perfect.”
Another similarity between Morrow and Reed is that they are both alumni of Eastern Washington University. So, did Morrow know about the all-time rushing leader before coming to the CFL?
“I'd seen George Reed because he was on our wall. I’ll never forget my first season up there even before I even played I got to meet George Reed and I remember J.O. (Jeremy O’Day) He pulled up and said, hey George Reed, he's a Washington State alum and he's a legend here. After that, I looked into it, and it was awesome to meet him and chop it up with him and to see how important he was to Saskatchewan and just the CFL in general.”
