Melfort Mustangs, Flin Flon Bombers earn back-to-back wins to take 2-0 SJHL series leads

BRONCOS 2, BOMBERS 4

Ryder Ringor scored twice while Matthew Kieper made 34 stops to help the Flin Flon Bombers to their second straight win in their first round series, a 4-2 decision over the Humboldt Broncos.

Keefe Gruener and Leighton Carruthers also hit the back of the net for the home-side who went 2 for 7 on the powerplay.

Kye Benoche scored both goals for the Broncos who will host Games 3 and 4 of the series back in Humboldt on Tuesday & Wednesday.


NORTH STARS 5, RED WINGS 2

The Battlefords North Stars got two first period goals from Colton Getzlaf to lead them to a 5-2 road win over the Weyburn Red Wings to even up their Best of 7 series at 1-1.

Seth Dragan, Carter Geysen and Gavin Granger also scored for the North Stars while Josh Karman and Jerome Maharaj replied for the Red Wings.

North Stars netminder Justen Maric won the duel between the pipes making 29 saves on 31 shots, while Angelo Zol took the loss for Weyburn after stopping 26 shots.

The series shifts to North Battleford for the next two starting Tuesday night for Game 3.


KLIPPERS 1, MUSTANGS 6

Zac Somers netted two goals and one helper as the Melfort Mustangs now have a 2-0 series lead after 6-1 Game 2 over the visiting Kindersley Klippers on Saturday night.

Ashton Paul, Ashton Hutchinson, Danton Cox and Logan Belton also provided the offence for the defending champions, while Madden Mullawka had to make just 15 saves in the win.

Kindersley will host Games 3 and 4 of the first round series on Tuesday and Wednesday.
