Estevan Bears split weekend road games with the Contacts

The Bears won 4-2 Sunday after losing 5-3 on Saturday.

SASKATOON - The Estevan Great North U18 AAA Bears went 1-1 on their latest road trip, losing 5-3 to the Saskatoon Contacts on Saturday but regrouping to win 4-2 on Sunday.

Kade McIvor opened the scoring for Estevan six minutes into the first period of Saturday's game, but Saskatoon scored twice in the first and added another in the second for a 3-1 lead. Jack Robinson scored late in the second to pull Estevan to within one, but Saskatoon scored twice more to lead by three. Gunner Moore notched Estevan's final goal late in the third.

Brady Carr stopped 34 shots for Estevan.

Boston Schmidt scored twice, including the winning goal with 2:48 to play in the third period, in Sunday's Estevan victory.

Dylan Brass opened the scoring early in the first period, but the Contacts tied the game early in the second. It remained a tie game until Schmidt's first goal of the game late in the second.

Saskatoon tied the game again less than seven minutes into the third, and it looked like the game might be headed for overtime until Schmidt scored again. Kade McIvor finished the scoring in the final minute of the third.

Cole Ivey made 31 saves for Estevan.

The Bears (9-7-2) will be back on the ice on Nov. 20 when they host the Regina Pat Canadians at 8 p.m. Then they will host the two-time defending league champions, the Saskatoon Blazers, on Nov. 23 at 1 p.m. and the following day at 2 p.m.
