Team SJHL, Team MJHL split games at Western All-Star Showcase in Warman

Team Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League earned a split of two-game Western All-Star Showcase event with a 2-0 win over Team Manitoba Junior Hockey League on Wednesday in Warman.

Weyburn Red Wing netminder Angelo Zol earned the 32 save shutout in goal for the SJHL who got goals from Dustin Renas of the Yorkton Terriers and Melville Millionaires.

Mitchell Kathler for the MJHL stopped 25 of 27 shots in the losing cause. 

In the opening game on Tuesday, Dru Mushumanski of the Waywayseecappo Wolverines scored twice while Raiden LeGall made 26 stops to lead Team MJHL to a 4-2 victory over Team SJHL.

Matthew Thomas and Blake Matheson also scored for the MJHL, while Connor Miller and Rylan Williams replied for the SJHLers.

Callum Creig of the Yorkton Terriers stopped 20 of 24 shots in the loss.

This event serves as a pre-selection camp for the prestigious World Junior A Challenge and Team Canada West, offering a platform for young talents to showcase their skills and potentially launch their careers.

This challenge hosted the top 19U players from western Canada vying for the opportunity to represent Canada at the World Junior A Challenge (WJAC) in December.

The top twenty prospects from the camp will attend Team Canada West’s main camp in Calgary later this month.
