The Saskatoon Stars will represent the west at the women’s under-18 AAA Esso Cup national tournament in Lloydminster.

The Stars won back-to-back must-win games to earn their berth into the championship tournament.

In game one of the best-of-three series in Saskatoon against the Manitoba representatives, the Eastman Selects, the visitors secured a tight 2-1 victory.

In Saturday’s game two, despite being outshot 44-31, the Stars were able to hang on for a 5-4 victory to force a third and deciding game in their series.

The Sunday night finale at Merlis Belsher Place would see Saskatoon post a convincing 6-0 win over the Selects in game three. Tarynn Sutter was perfect, turning aside all 33 shots she faced. While, Halle Duchene scored a hat trick for the Stars, with singles added by Kolbee Ashe, Reese Dyky and Maggie Freeman.

Next up for the Stars is a trip to Lloydminster for the Esso Cup, which runs from April 20-26.

Joining the Stars in Lloydminster will be the Pacific region champion Edmonton Junior Oilers, from Quebec, the Etoiles Laurentides-Lanaudiere from the Atlantic region, and the Eastern Stars. The Ontario representative has yet to be determined.
