Saskatchewan’s Mike McEwen is one of five unbeaten teams at the Brier in Kelowna. McEwen’s Saskatoon foursome picked up their third win of the event, 8-4, over Ontario’s Sam Mooibroek last night.

McEwen’s record is more impressive, considering he was battling a cold all weekend.

“I just had to get through this opening weekend. The silver lining is that I’m assuming I’m not going to feel like this closing weekend.”

McEwen is happy with how his team, last year’s runners-up, played.

“These are the middle seeds of our pool, but they are strong teams, and if you don’t play well, they will beat you. That’s a big 3-0 to start for us.”

Also unbeaten through the Brier’s first six draws are defending champion Brad Gushue, Manitoba skips Matt Dunstone and Reid Carruthers along with Brad Jacobs’ Alberta team…

McEwen is back on the ice Monday afternoon when he faces Quebec’s Felix Asselin, who are 2-1.

Saskatoon’s Rylan Kleiter had a bye in last night’s draw, and his foursome is 1-1 after the opening weekend play.

Kleiter is also on the ice Monday afternoon, where he will face winless Aaron Bartling and his Northwest Territories team.
