The Saskatoon Westleys and Fort Knox squared off Tuesday night at the Rodd Hamm Memorial area in Saskatoon for the third time in four days.
Fort Knox, looking for their first league title in franchise history, was joined by two fan buses in Saskatoon, which added to the emotion of the night.
However, Fort Knox would leave empty-handed after a 3-1 loss.
After a scoreless first period, the hometown Westleys capitalized on the power play in the second period.
Fort Knox was assessed 16 penalty minutes in the middle frame, and Saskatoon would score three times on the power play. Raiden Clayton’s fifth of the playoffs, Rylan McLachlan’s third and fourth of the postseason lifted the Westleys to a 3-0 lead through 40 minutes.
In the third period, the rough play continued, with the teams combining for 14 penalty minutes. Amid the penalty parade, Shaden Duliak scored 2:37 into the third period to cut into the Westleys, but Fort Knox couldn’t get any closer.
Fort Knox leads the best-of-seven league final 3-2. Game six in the series is Thursday night in Fort Qu’Appelle.
