I know April is tax month in Canada, but these are numbers that won’t need to be entered on your tax forms.

I’m Dave Thomas, and the world of data and analytics in sports can be overwhelming. It can also be very useful when determining strategy AND a player's worth.

Saskatchewan Roughriders Vice President of Football Operations and General Manager Jeremy O’Day used those numbers to display the dominance of offensive lineman Logan Ferland, who signed a contract extension with the Roughriders this week.

“He took 1,124 snaps. What's more impressive is that he took 528 snaps at right guard, 379 snaps at center, 199 snaps at right tackle, and 18 snaps at left tackle, which speaks to his versatility. Obviously, I think he probably would like to stay in one spot.”

“Over the last 47 games that he's played, a very impressive stat is that Logan's only been penalized twice in 47 games. I think it's 45 regular-season games and two playoff games,” added O’Day.

Ferland was on the SportsCage Tuesday and you can hear that conversation at SportsCage dot com.
