The game was close through 20-minutes Wednesday but would soon turn into a blow-out.

YORKTON - The Yorkton Kinsmen Maulers squared off against the Estevan Great North Bears Wednesday.

The Saskatchewan Male AAA (U18) Hockey League game at the Westland Insurance Arena was a close one – at least through the opening 20-minutes of play. There were only 22 ticks left on the clock when the first goal of the game was finally scored, a powerplay effort by Estevan’s Roan Burgess.

From there the floodgates opened as the Bears mauled the Maulers outscoring the home side 10-2 through the final 40-minutes.

It was another powerplay effort, this time by Dylan Brass only 55 seconds into the second that started the barrage.

Brady Simpson responded to that goal by putting the Maulers on the board a few minutes later making it 2-1 for a time.

The Bears than scored three more in the second. Burgess would complete his hat trick with two, and Will Nicholson added a single, while Layne McKechnie got one for Yorkton to make it 5-2 after two periods.

It was all Bears in the third as Kobe Wotta, Ryden Amberson, Cameron Allard, Gunner Moore, Jaxon Sedor and Cooper Flath all scored – the final four on the powerplay to complete the 11-2 drubbing.

The loss leaves Yorkton with a 3-15-1-1 for seven points and a tie for last place in the league standings.

Next action for the Maulers has them headed to Warman Dec. 8, to face the Wildcats.
