Three provincial baseball tournaments underway in Estevan

ESTEVAN - The latest youth baseball tournaments to happen in Estevan are underway.

The Baseball Sask 13U AA Tier 5, the 18U AA Tier 6 and the 18U AA Tier 5 tournaments are all happening in Estevan from July 26-28, bringing 21 teams to Estevan.

The 13U competition is the largest with nine teams. All games are happening at Mel Murray Cactus Park. The host Estevan Brewers opened with a 16-13 loss to the Gravelbourg Lightning on July 26.

Estevan will host the Biggar Nationals at 9 a.m. and the Balcarres Broncs at 3 p.m. on July 27. Then on July 28, they will play the Carrot River Loggers at noon.

The top team from the Brewers' pool will advance to the provincial final July 28 at 3 p.m.

Six teams are entered in each of the U18 divisions. The Estevan Blazers opened their play in Tier 6 with a 9-6 victory over the Quad Town Steelers on July 26 at Lynn Prime Park.

Estevan will look to keep the momentum going on July 27 when they host the Regina Expos at 11:45 a.m. at Mel Murray. Then they close out the round robin by playing the Eston Ramblers at 5:15 p.m. at Lynn Prime Park.

Playoffs are July 28 at Lynn Prime. If no tie-breakers are needed, the final is slated to start at 3 p.m. at Lynn Prime. If there are tie-breakers, the championship would begin at 3:30 p.m.

The 18U AA Tier 5 provincials are happening at Lynn Prime Park. The Carnduff Astros opened with a 7-5 victory over the Wynyard Blues.

They will continue play July 27 when they face the Gull Lake Greyhounds at 11:45 a.m. and the Yorkton Cardinals at 5:30 p.m.

Playoffs will happen on July 28. If tie-breakers are needed, the final would start at 2 p.m.; if there aren't tie-breakers, the final could begin earlier.
