Southeast rink competes at U18 girls' curling provincials

Amy Fradette, Olivia Fonstad, April McMillen and Andrea Fradette competed in U18 provincials in Prince Albert.

PRINCE ALBERT - The Olivia Fonstad rink, competing out of the Estevan Curling Club, travelled to Prince Albert for the CurlSask U18 girls' provincials, held from Dec. 27-30.

Team Fonstad went 0-3 at the triple-knockout elimination event. Other members were third Amy Fradette, second April McMillen and lead Andrea Fradette. Pauline Ziehl Grimsrud was their coach.

Team Fonstad's opening game was a 6-4 loss to Kaylee Hogeboom, who went on to win the provincial title. Fonstad held a 4-3 lead after six ends after getting a single point in each of the second, third, fifth and sixth ends, but Hogeboom scored twice in the seventh to take the lead and stole one in the eighth. The tournament has eight-end games.

Up next was a 7-6 loss to Tessa Todd in the B event. Fonstad scored twice in the first end, and led 5-3 after five ends and 6-4 through seven, but Todd scored three in the eighth to rally for the victory.

Their final game was a 10-6 loss in seven ends to Chloe Semeniuk in the C event. Fonstad scored two in the third end and three in the fifth, leaving her down 6-5, but Semeniuk scored four in the sixth, and Fonstad had just one in the seventh.
