Some of the top male under-15 hockey players are in Regina for Hockey Saskatchewan’s Top 160 Tournament, which is underway at the Co-operators Centre.
The tournament is the second phase of evaluations for 2010-born athletes, following their performances at recent north and south regional camps. The selected players will showcase their talent across eight teams in a round-robin format, concluding on Monday, December 30, with A, B, C, and D finals to cap the competition.
Joseph Laprairie, Marketing and Communications Manager for Hockey Saskatchewan, is excited about the 160 players' opportunity to compete this weekend.
“This tournament provides an incredible opportunity for these young athletes to display their skills and dedication. It’s a key step in identifying Saskatchewan’s top U15 players and advancing them through our Sask First program.”
The Top 80 players from this weekend’s tournament will advance to the next stage of the program, which includes another evaluation tournament scheduled for February 14–16, 2025, in Balgonie.
Ultimately, the Sask First program will select 20 players to form the Male Under-16 team that will represent Saskatchewan at the prestigious 2025 WHL Cup.
