TSN, SportsCage analyst Glen Suitor believes Stewart Johnston will be ‘excellent’ CFL commissioner

The new CFL commissioner is former TSN president, Stewart Johnston.

"I think Stewart Johnston will be excellent," TSN and SportsCage analyst Glen Suitor told The SportsCage. "He's been a great leader of our group. Always there if you want to talk to him about anything. Not one of those guys in charge that is sort of letting you talk and then walking away without listening, that's not Stewart.”

The outgoing CFL commissioner is Randy Ambrosie, he started after taking over Jeffrey Orridge on July 5, 2017. Last October, Ambroise decided to retire in 2025 after the board of governors found his successor. Suitor knows what Johnston should do as CFL commissioner.

"The game itself doesn't need to be fixed. How we present it and things like that are always a work in progress and something that we can always improve on for sure," Suitor said. "Stewart Johnston understands some of the holes, he understands what should be prioritized and what shouldn't. The key for him is going to be how you present your message."

There is one misconception about TSN's view regarding the CFL broadcasting rights Suitor wants to change.

"The thought that there will possibly be no one interested in televising these games, I can tell you TSN wants the rights back for sure," Suitor explained.

"Stewart Johnston understands value better than anybody of the CFL and what it brings. When you're averaging over 500,000 a game in viewership across this country, you can put that up against any show that is on TV. It's still to me an underutilized product, really its potential within our own country is still not realized. I think this is the expertise that he can bring to the table."

In addition to the CFL commissioner news, Suitor reacted to the Saskatchewan Roughriders re-signing Logan Ferland for two years through 2027.

"Great signing by the team, without a question. We can just say one of the top linemen, if not the top linemen in the league," Suitor said.

"He came up through the junior leagues and it gives hope to every one of those kids that are out there that maybe aren't playing college ball or down south playing college, could still get on a pro roster if that's their dream. Well-spoken guy. Congratulations to him and a great signing for the team."
