The town of Canora is set to shine as it hosts the 17th edition of Hockey Day in Saskatchewan (HDIS), presented by Richardson Pioneer.
This annual celebration of hockey and community will take place from January 14 to 19, 2025.
Details of the exciting schedule of festivities will be released soon.
HDIS is not only a celebration of the sport, but it also serves as a crucial fundraising initiative aimed at supporting rink projects across the province.
The funds raised will empower the community in its transformative plan to replace the town’s aging Civic Centre, which has been the heart of Canora hockey since the 1960s
“Hockey Day in Saskatchewan continues to embody the province’s love for the game, highlighting hockey's vital role in small communities like Canora”, said Kelly McClintock, General Manager of Hockey Saskatchewan.
Stacy Vangen, President of the Canora Minor Hockey Board of Directors, echoed this sentiment, emphasizing how the 2025 event will spotlight the community’s passion for hockey.
“Canora is home to a flourishing hockey scene and we’ve seen significant growth, increasing its numbers from 63 to 125 players in just one season” Vangen added. “The rink replacement project is vital for supporting this growth and ensuring that Canora continues to nurture a love for hockey in future generations”.
Since its inception in 2008, the event has raised over $1,417,000, helping keep the province’s rinks thriving.
This marks the third time that a community in Zone four has hosted Hockey Day in Saskatchewan festivities with previous hosting by Balcarres in 2018 and Melville in 2012
