The University of Regina Cougars and men’s hockey head coach Todd Johnson have mutually agreed to part ways after 12 campaigns. From 2012-2025, Johnson had an 87-217-24 record with the Cougars.

Johnson was hired as the University of Regina's eighth head coach in the school's men's hockey program's history on April 9, 2012, after spending two seasons as an assistant coach with the Western Hockey League's Kootenay Ice.

It didn't take long for Johnson to make his mark on the U of R program. In his first season as head coach, the Cougars had a 13-12-3 conference record and made their first postseason appearance since 2009.

Johnson's time with Kootenay was highlighted by a WHL championship and an appearance in the Memorial Cup during the 2010-11 campaign. Prior to Kootenay, he served as the head coach of the Midget AAA team for the Pursuit of Excellence Hockey Academy in Kelowna, British Columbia, for seven seasons.

His professional playing career spanned six seasons, including five in Germany and one with the Central Hockey League's Wichita Thunder. Johnson was also a five-year member of the University of Calgary's hockey team and was named Canada West's MVP following the 1996-97 campaign. He played for three full seasons in the WHL before his time with the Dinos, winning a Memorial Cup championship in 1992 with the Kamloops Blazers and serving as Red Deer's captain during the franchise's inaugural 1992-93 season.
