SJHL’s Final Four set after round one wraps up

The Terriers will meet Mustangs, while Bombers battle Red Wings in round 2

Round number one of the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League is in the books, and the top four seeds are moving on.

The Flin Flon Bombers earned their berth in the SJHL Semi-Finals after Matthew Kieper stopped all 23 shots he faced for his second straight shutout, a 5-0 decision over the Humboldt Broncos in Game 6 on Monday night.

Reid Arberry, Ryder Ringor, Luke Lepper, Landon Alexander and Joey Lies scored for the Bombers who’ll now play the Weyburn Red Wings in round two.

The Red Wings earned a 2-1 series clinching win in Game 6 on the road over the Battlefords North Stars on Monday.

Angelo Zol stopped 34 of 35 shots to push the Red Wings to their first playoff matchup with the Bombers since 2016.

Meanwhile the other second round matchup will be the top-seeded Melfort Mustangs battling the Yorkton Terriers.

The Mustangs and Terriers dispatched of the Kindersley Klippers and Melville Millionaires respectively in five games to set up a rematch of the entertaining seven games from the 2022 playoffs.

Game 1’s of both SJHL Semi-Final series are slated to take place on Friday night in Melfort and Flin Flon.
