YORKTON - The Yorkton Kinsmen Mauler hosted Battlefords in Saskatchewan Male U18 AAA Hockey League action Sunday afternoon.
The visiting Stars started the scoring at the Westland Insurance Arena with a pair of unanswered first period goals; Easton Kozak at the 1:44 mark of action, and Kaegan Lowe with an unassisted effort at 2:38.
In the second Kieran Sobry put the Maulers on the board at 3:14.
But a powerplay goal by Lukamus Lehman sent the Stars to their dressing room up 3-1 after 40-minutes of play.
A short-handed effort by Ryder Woods drew the Maulers within one just 36-seconds into the third period, and Aidan Vallance knotted things 3-3 with a Yorkton goal with only 3:46 left in the game.
But the Stars were not done, as Waylon Gardipy scored the game-winner for the visitors with only 21 ticks left on the clock.
Luke Norman was in net for the Stars facing 35-shots for the win.
Casson Silbernagel took the loss for the Maulers facing 34.
Headed to the Christmas break Yorkton has a record of 4-20-1 for nine points, better only than Notre Dame in the 12-team loop. Moose Jaw and Regina are tied atop the league, each with 42-points.
