The Carlyle Senior Cougars finished their season playing Wawota.

CARLYLE - The Carlyle Cougars Powered by 306 AG were sitting in fifth place near the end of the Big Six Hockey League season, but if they could win their final regular season games, they could move up in the standings.

After a 10-7 win on Jan. 18 over the Wawota Flyers, the Cougars were back on the ice on Jan. 25, when they went to Wawota to finish off the season. Carlyle came out strong with a 7-1 lead after the first period and 9-2 through two.

The Cougars did not slow down in the third period and kept up the strong play to win 12-3, ending the season with a bang.

Coach Tyler Fleck said the team finished in third place and is now headed into the playoffs.

They will have their first game of the quarter-finals on Jan. 31 in Carlyle against the Midale Mustangs. The Cougars love to play in front of a full house and hear the noise of the fans.

Midale is the sixth-place team, and the series is a best-of-five. Game 2 is in Midale on Feb. 1, Game 3 is Feb. 4 in Carlyle, Game 4, if necessary, would be the next night in Midale and Game 5 would be Feb. 11 in Carlyle.

All games will begin at 8 p.m. with the exception of Game 4, which would have puck drop at 8:30 p.m.

With provincial playoffs just around the corner and league playoffs beginning, there will be lots of hockey to watch.

The Cougars thank everyone for their continued support throughout the season.
