Redvers also took two big wins over the Dec. 6/7 weekend, posting a shutout 4-0 over the Midale Mustangs on Dec. 6, and tripling up 9-3 over the third-place Carlyle Cougars.

REDVERS — A mid-week win in Kipling saw the Redvers Rockets take the number one position in the Big 6 Hockey League with a 6-0-2 record for the year thus far.

The Rockets started the scoring race strong, firing five unanswered goals in the first 20 minutes to take a healthy lead. The middle frame noted a comeback from the KW Oil Kings, taking the game 8-4 after 40 minutes, but the powerhouse Rockets would simply prove too hot to handle, posting a doubled-up 12-6 final over the host Oil Kings.

Earlier in the month, the Moosomin Rangers had a roller-coaster weekend that noted their first loss of the season.

The first game of December saw Moosomin lay a thumping on the KW Oil Kings at home on Dec, 6. The Rangers shut out the visiting Oil Kings 14-0, and will all those lamp-lighters, only one hat trick, courtesy Carter Sawchuk. Taylor Sanheim, Bud Holloway, and Koby Morrisseau would each add braces, plus singles from Jayden Bender, Kye McGonigal, Ryker Cole, Chad Hebert, and Justin Lamontagne.

The next evening saw Moosomin hit the road for a first meeting with the Oxbow Huskies, which would prove to tarnish the Rangers’ perfect season.

Sanheim wasn’t done wracking up goals for the weekend, starting the scoring race early in the first period, but Oxbow’s Cody Davis answered the call to tie the game 1-1 after the first 20 minutes.

The middle frame would see Oxbow take a 3-2 lead after a Holloway goal from the Rangers. The final period noted the Huskies building on their lead with two more quick goals in the first two minutes for a 5-2 score. Moosomin’s Cole and Sanheim would contribute two more, but could not catch up. As the buzzer sounded, Oxbow took a 5-4 win, leaving the Rangers 6-1 for the season at press time, second in the league to the Rockets.

Redvers also took two big wins over the Dec. 6/7 weekend, posting a shutout 4-0 over the Midale Mustangs on Dec. 6, and tripling up 9-3 over the third-place Carlyle Cougars, who are sitting at 5-2-1.

Rounding out the bottom five are the 5-2 Carnduff Red Devils, the 4-2 Huskies, the Mustangs sit 2-5-1 while the Oil Kings are 1-6-1. The Wawota Flyers are still looking for their first win of the year, sitting at 0-6.
