Saskatchewan judo athletes picked up nine medals at the Hatashita Ontario Open in Toronto over the weekend. Regina’s Michael Yee and Thomas Berns-Shinmura, Kenzie Woods and Nova Lee-Neuman from Moose Jaw, Ridley Suberlak of Battleford, and Saskatoon’s Azra Benic all found the podium at the prestigious event.
The event was one of the biggest ever in the country, with 777 athletes responsible for 1045 entries into individual divisions. There were athletes from every province and territory in Canada and a large number of US competitors.
