Team Canada is off to a 1-0 start in men’s curling at the FISU Winter Games in Torino, Italy.
Canada, represented by the University of Regina’s Joshua Bryden, scored an impressive 7-5 win over Switzerland in their opening game of the round-robin.
Despite not having the last rock advantage, Bryden jumped out in front first, stealing a point in the second end. The Swiss were then forced into taking a point in the third end, evening the score at 1-1.
In the fourth end, it was all Bryden as they would capitalize on several team Switzerland mistakes to score four points, giving them a 5-1 lead at the break.
In the second half of the game, Bryden did allow Switzerland to score deuces in the fifth and seventh ends, but they never lost control, scoring single points of their own in the sixth and eighth ends.
Canada will be back in action on Thursday afternoon when they take on China, who fell 8-7 to the host Italians in their opening game.
