After competing at three events and accumulating five gold medals in the process, Jonathan Podbielski has been named Sask Sport’s February Athlete of the Month.
Regina’s Podbielski secured the top of the podium in the men’s 1,000-metre, 1,500-m and 3,000-m races, earning him the Men’s Performance of the Meet Award at the Canada West Track and Field Championships, which took place at the end of February. Podbielski was named Men’s Canada West Track Athlete of the Year leading into the event.
Earlier in the month, Podbielski competed at the Jim Daly Bison Classic in Winnipeg and finished first in the men’s 1,500-m and 3,000-m races before competing at the Bruce Lehane Scarlet and White Invitational, where he placed 20th in the 3,000-m and 21st in the men’s mile.
His results were good enough to qualify for the U SPORTS National Track and Field Championships, which took place March 6-8 in Windsor, Ont., where he finished third in the 1,000-m.
