Moose Jaw’s Kaylee Hogeboom and Esterhazy’s Brandon Weiss were the winners of the Under-18 Saskatchewan Curling Championships held in Prince Albert.

Moose Jaw’s Kaylee Hogeboom and Esterhazy’s Brandon Weiss were the winners of the Under-18 Saskatchewan Curling Championships held in Prince Albert.

The four-day event saw Hogeboom’s foursome go undefeated through the A qualifier, B qualifier and play-offs. Hogeboom would defeat Saskatoon’s Renee Wood 7-3 in the final.

Hogeboom’s team of Payton Fisher, Abby Hogeboom, Kelsey McQueen, Callista McQueen and coach Barb Owens will represent Saskatchewan at the Canadian Championship on February 16-22, 2025, at Saskatoon’s Nutana Curling Club.

In the men’s event, Weiss went 4-1 through the round-robin. His lone loss was to Martensville’s Tyler Derksen. In the playoffs, Weiss exacted his revenge, topping Derksen 7-1 in the 1 vs. 2 playoff game.

Derksen would then fall in the semi-final setting up a showdown between Weiss and Moose Jaw’s Dayne Heisler. Weiss would score three in the first end, but thanks to a deuce in the fifth end, Heisler would tie the game 4-4 heading into the final three ends.

Weiss would successfully blank the sixth and seventh ends before scoring a pair in the eighth end for a 6-4 win at a chance to represent Saskatchewan at the national championship in Saskatoon in February.

Team Weiss includes Josh Lussier, Carter Nelson, Elijah Chomos and coach: Mark Weiss.

Hogeboom and Weiss will have company in the Bridge City because the Canadian Championship will be held at the Nutana Curling Club. Saskatchewan is granted a Host Team berth in both the men’s and women’s divisions. So Team Wood and Team Heisler will compete in their respective divisions at Team Saskatchewan #2.
