The Toronto Argonauts have signed Canadian linebacker Stephen Smith.

The six-foot, 220-pound defender played the last four seasons with the Regina Thunder in the Canadian Junior Football League. In 2023 and 2024, he was named the CJFL's Outstanding Defensive Player and earned back-to-back first-team All-Canadian nods.

Through 40 games with the Thunder, Smith recorded 315 total tackles, 4.5 sacks, three tackles for loss, three interceptions, one forced fumble and one blocked kick.

The Abernethy, SK native spent the 2024 season doing double duty, playing for the Thunder and practicing with the Saskatchewan Roughriders. The 22-year-old helped Regina win the Prairie Football Conference championship this past season, upsetting rival Saskatoon on the road at SMF Field. He made one special teams tackle in two preseason games last May with the Riders.
