The Canadian Football League has hit Canadian receiver Samuel Emilus in the pocketbook.

The 26-year-old was fined for delivering a blindside block on Calgary Stampeders defensive back Demerio Houston during the Riders 37-29 win in Week 16.

The six-foot-one, 200-pound pass catcher was blocking downfield for his teammate KeeSean Johnson who had caught a pass while running down the sideline. Johnson was in the open field when Emilus was flagged for unnecessary roughness, the yardage was applied after 35 yards were gained.

As per league police, the amount Emilus was fined was not disclosed. The collective bargaining agreement states the maximum allowable fine equals half a game cheque.

The Montreal, QC native has recorded 70 receptions for 781 yards and four touchdowns through 14 games in the 2024 season. Through 41 games in his CFL career, the Louisiana Tech University graduate has 237 grabs for 2,043 yards (13.6 per catch) and 10 touchdowns. General manager Jeremy O'Day selected Emilus in the first round, seventh overall during the 2022 CFL Draft.
