Regina Pats 2004-born defenceman John Babcock has committed to NCAA-D1 Robert Morris University for the 2025-2026 season.

Babcock becomes the second member of the Regina Pats this season to commit to an NCAA school for the 2025-2026 season after Braxton Whitehead announced his commitment to Arizona State in September.

Regina Pats Vice President of Hockey Operations and General Manager Alan Millar feels that the overage defenceman has earned the opportunity to continue his hockey career at the collegiate level.

“John has been an excellent person, leader, and player for our hockey club in his final WHL season. We wish him all the best in his future endeavours.”

Babcock has tallied one goal and 18 assists with the Pats in 43 games this season. The alternate captain from North Vancouver, British Columbia, has played in 232 WHL games over the past five seasons, recording 70 points (9G-61A) and a plus-minus rating of +40.

Prior to this season, Babcock would have been ineligible to pursue his hockey career in the NCAA, but he is excited to be heading to school in Pittsburgh in the fall.

“I’m extremely grateful to have played parts of five years with the best junior hockey league in the world,” said Babcock. “I’m excited to continue my development at Robert Morris University. It feels great to get the opportunity to experience the best of both worlds.”
