The Battlefords North Stars announced that Garry Childerhose has been promoted to Head Coach & GM for the Battlefords North Stars.
Childerhose, a 34-year-old product of Battleford, joined the Stars' coaching staff before the 2021-22 season as an Assistant Coach.
“ Having a hometown boy who played his minor hockey career in the Battlefords is a very special moment for our board and our community, " added North Stars President Kyle Kellgren.
After his first season, he earned the designation of Associate Coach alongside Brayden Klimosko.
Together, they led the Stars to an SJHL Championship and a National Silver Medal.
Klimosko left the organization earlier this summer to become the Head Coach & GM of his hometown Humboldt Broncos.
“ I’m honored and excited for the opportunity to be the next Head Coach and General Manager for the Battlefords North Stars,” said Childerhose. “Working with and learning from two great coaches and CJHL Coaches of the Year, Brayden Klimosko and Mike Reagan, over the past 8 seasons has been tremendous for my growth as a coach, and I couldn’t be more grateful.
Additionally, the North Stars are excited to announce the hiring of former North Star forward and local product Owen Lamb as Assistant Coach. Lamb played with the North Stars from 2016-2019, racking up 164 games with 44 goals and 47 assists.
He then moved on to the University of Alberta Augustana of the ACAC, where he played for 5 seasons. After his graduation this past April, he moved back home.
