Veteran QB's ready for rematch

Age is just a number when it comes to CFL quarterbacks.

The number attached to their age may be a big one (compared to many others in the league), but so are the numbers attached to yards passing on the stat sheet.

Veteran quarterbacks, Trevor Harris for the Riders, and Bo Levi Mitchell for the Ticats may be two of the older players in the league but so far this season they have plenty of pep in their step!

Harris has 4 years on Mitchell after recently turning 38.

Mitchell is 34 but seems like he has been in the league a lot longer.

Either way one is in his late 30s, and the other in his mid 30s.

Going into 2024 many had questions in regards to them returning after missing more than half the season last year.

Harris played in 5 games and Mitchell only played in 6.

However, so far this season, they have looked like that time off did them a lot of good.

Right out of the gate Harris is nearly averaging 350 yards per game after the first two, with Mitchell right behind him at 340 yards per game.

Harris and the Riders are 2-and-0, Mitchell and the Ticats are 0-and-2.

But with a little luck they could also be 2-and-0.

The point is these two vets have showed, early on, that there is a lot left in those aging tanks, but long term success will be determined by their teams back up plan.

The Riders are in a much better position for when Harris will be out of the line up. Whether that is taking a break or recovering from a slight injury (fingers crossed its nothing more), as its a long season.

An 18 game schedule, in a passing league (3 downs), these quarterbacks get hit a lot, and need a break.

But with Patterson and Coan (who I believe can be a great QB in this league), behind Harris, the green and white are in a better spot when the vet will be on the sidelines.

The Ticats are in a very similar position.

Once again, they seem to be in a better spot, (when, not if), when Mitchell needs a break.

But that won't be this weekend.

Game 3 features the rematch between the Riders and the Ticats after the Riders were able to earn a win in the Hammer in week 2. With both teams running games looking a little loose in week 2, look for these veteran QB's to lead their teams, once again, in week 3.

Look for another close game, with the veteran pivots putting up big numbers, and slinging it right to the end.
