The next men up

It's a cliche that may be over used in football, but it's proving to be true for this Saskatchewan Roughrider team.

The Saskatchewan Roughriders pulled off an impressive 19-9 win over the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, showcasing the mantra of "the next man up" in an electrifying game.  The Riders improved their record to 5-1, and the Blue Bombers fell to 2-5.

With the anticipation of the Riders donning their new obsidian green jerseys, Rider Nation was unsure of what to expect from the team.  Coming off a loss against BC, Coach Corey Mace wanted to know how his team would respond and what they are made of.  The Riders saw quarterback Shea Patterson starting another game for the injured Trevor Harris.  Patterson displayed composure and confidence, leading the Rider offence by completing 17 out of 25 passes for 261 yards, one touchdown, and 35 rushing yards.

The next-man-up mentality was evident throughout the game as the Riders faced challenges.  When Kian Schaffer-Baker suffered a first-half shoulder injury, rookie Ajou Ajou seamlessly stepped in, making four catches for 110 yards.  Clint Ratkovick scored his first CFL touchdown after splitting time with AJ Ouellette, and Caleb Sanders got his first sack.  Most importantly, Jacob Brammer delivered a solid performance during his first   FL start on the offensive line, filling in for the injured Jermarcus Hardrick.

The game's turning point occurred in the fourth quarter, when prized free-agent signing Jameer Thurman chased down Nik Demski, causing a crucial fumble that led to a turnover, ultimately securing the win for the green and white.

Looking ahead, the Riders face the Montreal Alouettes on a short week, and fans can tune in to the 620 CKRM Countdown to Kickoff, which begins at 2:30.

The victory against the Blue Bombers is a testament to the resilience and depth of the Saskatchewan Roughriders.  The team's ability to overcome adversity and rally behind the 'next man up' reflects their unwavering determination and depth of talent, a quality that should make every fan proud.
