The Riders went on the road to BC to face their biggest test of the young CFL season.

The Saskatchewan Roughriders suffered their first loss of the season, 35-20, at the hands of the BC Lions.

The Riders entered the game with a pristine 4-0 record but faced a significant challenge from the 4-1 BC Lions.  Despite being undefeated, the Riders felt they were not receiving the respect they deserved around the CFL.

From the beginning, the Lions came out strong and capitalized on their opportunities.  Lions' quarterback and former Rider Vernon Adams Jr. threw for a remarkable 451 yards and connected for one touchdown.  His favourite target was former Rider Justin McInnis, who had an outstanding performance with 14 catches for 243 yards.

Despite the Riders' struggle to pick up only four first downs in the first half, their display of grit and determination with gutsy play calling, solid defence, and a pivotal onside kick that brought them within striking distance at 22-20 was truly inspiring.  However, despite their efforts, the Riders were unable to close the gap further.

Amid the loss, there were some bright spots for Rider Nation.  AJ Ouellette showcased his ability with 72 rushing yards and scored his first two touchdowns, while defensive end Anthony Lanier shone with two sacks and seemed to be in the Lions backfield all night.

In his post-game comments on 620 CKRM, Coach Corey Mace told Luc Mullinder that the key question following the Riders' first loss is how the team will respond. The next challenge for the Riders comes against the Winnipeg Blue Bombers at Mosaic Stadium on Friday night when the team will debut its striking obsidian green uniforms for the first time this season.

The Bombers are coming off their second win, beating Calgary at home to improve their record to 2-4.  The 620 CKRM Countdown To Kickoff starts at 4:30 on Friday afternoon.
